CandleWatch

Support

CandleWatch is in closed testing and is not on either store yet. If something is wrong, or you want to be told when it opens, write to the address at the bottom of this page — there is no in-app chat and no ticket queue.

The app's own site is at candlewatch.co.uk.

What the app does, and what it does not

It keeps the record of what you traded and works out what it adds up to: each leg at the rate on the day it happened, fees and currency included, and the UK capital-gains matching applied in the order HMRC sets out. Every figure shows its workings. Alongside that it gives you charts, indicators, market breadth and company filings from official sources, so you can study the market that produced the record.

It is not a broker. It cannot place trades, it holds no money, and it has no connection to your broker's account. It is not advice. Nothing in it is a recommendation to buy or sell anything, and nothing it shows is a signal to act. It describes what the data is doing and leaves the decision entirely with you.

It files nothing. The capital-gains section is arithmetic you can check and export. It does not submit anything to anyone, and it is not a substitute for an accountant.

Getting it

Closed testing only, for now. There is no public listing on either store, so there is nothing to download yet and no invite link on this page.

Leave your email address on candlewatch.co.uk and you will get one message, on the day it opens. It is not a newsletter, and the address is never shared.

Common questions

Do I need an account? No. Used on its own the app has no sign-in at all: your watchlist, positions, trades and settings stay on the device. Signing in to the hosted service is optional and keeps your book on that server instead, so it follows you between your phone and a browser.

Does it work with no signal? Your book does. Trades, holdings, fees and the whole capital-gains computation are worked out on the device. Live market data is the exception — prices, filings and news are fetched when you ask for them, so those need a connection.

A price does not match my broker's. Market data may be delayed, and different sources close a bar at different moments. The app tells you where each figure came from. For what you actually paid, the trade you logged is the record, not the chart.

Which capital-gains rules does it use? UK matching, in the order HMRC sets it out: same day, then the thirty-day rule, then the Section 104 pool at average cost. The rule that applied is named against every disposal so you can follow it. Check anything you rely on with an accountant.

I do not trade in the UK. It is still a full trade journal with fees and currency handled properly. The matching section simply will not apply to you.

How do I import my trade history? From your broker's own export. Ask it for the full history rather than a single year — positions are rebuilt from the whole record, and a partial export produces holdings that do not match your account.

A read changed. It is a description of the data as it stands now, not a call, and new data moves it. The app shows you what a read was based on, so you can see what moved and disagree with it. It never tells you what to do about it.

Can I get my data out? Yes. Your trades and the capital-gains working export at any time, free.

How do I delete everything? On the device, clear the app's storage or uninstall it — that removes the local copy permanently. If you signed in to the hosted service, deleting your account deletes the book held with it.

What does it cost? Free, with no in-app purchases at launch.
